New and more stable methods of measuring flow in domestic applications are being seen with the use of ultrasonic heat meters from several manufacturers. The meters are ideal for the applications because they can reliably measure flow rates world whose range could be from 0.6 to 2.5 cubic meters per hour. The meters are normally all metal. Ultrasonic techniques for “custody transfer” in industrial applications are becoming extremely popular because the heat meter's flow measurement technique operates without any wear and manages without moving parts in the flow rate sensor. The fact there are no moving parts means that the life span of the flowmeter is relative to the sensor card quality and we can see the meter can have a useful life of more than 15 years.

The heat meter can also measures the thermal energy exchanged through water in a heat exchanger circuit with addition of software. The ultrasonic heat meter can be used in utilities' substations of district and local heating networks, in larger heating systems in multiple-family dwellings and in residential areas, but also in refrigerating systems, for example. Here, it operates not only as a conventional heat or low-temperature meter, but also as a combined heat or low-temperature meter, as a condensate meter or as an energy-rating hot water meter (geyser meter) and as a pure flow rate sensor for heat meters with a high-speed pulse output.

These meters measures the supply and return temperatures and the flow rate of the hot water or chilled water with a high measuring constancy and measurement dynamics during flow rate metering . It can register the current values of output, flow rate and temperatures as well as their maximum values during a defined measurement period
